Tools and jobsite supplies
A compact room can keep frequently used supplies close to the work area. Put everyday items near the end doors and leave access to the back.

Keep tools, supplies or a small inventory close to the work. A nominal 10ft container offers a short storage room in an 80 sq ft box footprint. Choose the construction and condition, check the usable interior, and compare the complete cost at your delivery ZIP.

Start with the contents and the way you will reach them. Shelving, a work surface and an access aisle all take space.

See the example interior ↗Plan shelves and circulation before buying. If you need long materials, a deeper aisle or more stock, compare the longer format.
Compare a 20ft container ↗Bare dry storage does not provide insulation, power or a finished occupied room. Start with the conversion requirements when people will work inside.
Explore office conversions ↗If cargo swing doors do not suit the access plan, compare a roll-up conversion and its own clear opening.
See roll-up access ↗These measurements describe one standard-height, end-cargo-door storage model. Other 10ft constructions can have different interior depths and openings.
| Measurement | Example dimensions | What it helps you plan |
|---|---|---|
| Nominal exterior L × W × H | 10ft × 8ft × 8ft 6in | The box envelope, before access and delivery space. |
| Approximate interior L × W × H | 9ft 4in × 7ft 8in × 7ft 10in | The bare storage room, before shelving or lining. |
| Approximate cargo-door opening W × H | About 7ft 8in × 7ft 5in | A separate opening measurement for the packaged load. |
| Calculated bare floor area | About 72 sq ft | A starting point for the layout, without a load rating. |
The doorway is lower than the interior ceiling. The published specifications round the door fractions differently, so these opening figures are approximate. Have the seller measure the finished unit when clearance is close.
Dimensions and floor area do not establish payload, concentrated floor loading, lifting or stacking suitability. Those need the actual unit’s documentation and a handling plan.
The shorter box uses roughly half the nominal rectangle. Price, truck access and useful capacity need their own comparison.
The example model gives about 9ft 4in of clear depth and 72 sq ft of bare floor. Choose it when your inventory and access layout fit that short room.
Compare the finished construction ↗A representative standard 20ft interior has about 149 sq ft of bare floor. Its greater length can suit longer materials or a larger inventory.
Explore the 20ft format ↗A “new” or “one-trip” label does not tell you how a 10ft unit was made. Ask about the completed container you are buying.
Ask what the label describes: the short unit, a paired module or the donor shell. Limited travel can still leave handling marks; confirm current appearance and any finishing work.
Inspect the finished roof, floor, welds, doors, seals and locking bars. A fresh coat of paint does not make the underlying shell new.
| Construction to clarify | Evidence to request |
|---|---|
| Factory-built short container | The finished model specification, transport history and actual door layout. |
| Paired modules separated and finished after import | Photos and details of the completed end wall, joints and finishing work. |
| Cut down from a longer container | The donor’s condition plus details of the new end, welds, repairs and finished dimensions. |
For freight movement, confirm the finished unit’s approval plate, current examination or survey and carrier acceptance. A storage description, one-trip label or donor plate does not establish transport approval for a modified unit.
Chicago price example — checked October 8, 2026: one advertised standard-height new / one-trip 10ft container for domestic storage at $4,900 USD.
| Price example | What to budget |
|---|---|
| $4,900 USD container price | Chicago, Illinois; new / one-trip; domestic-storage option. |
| Add delivery and taxes | Both were excluded. Confirm unloading, special placement and optional changes separately. |
| Offer details to confirm | Construction, actual door arrangement and any required transport approval. |
This is one dated listing, not a ContainerPick price or national average. The priced offer is separate from the dimension example above. Ask for current new and used quotes for the configuration you need.
Have each seller identify the construction, height, door configuration and condition, then itemize the container, transport, unloading and placement, changes, taxes and other fees for the same address. A 10ft box should not be budgeted as half the price of a 20ft.
A shorter container does not guarantee a shorter truck. Have the delivery operator confirm the vehicle and unloading method for your site.
Send gate widths, tight turns, overhead obstructions, slope and surface conditions, with photos along the route to the placement area.
Identify who provides lifting or unloading equipment and whether final placement is included. The box footprint does not describe the truck’s working space.
Choose which way the cargo doors face and leave room for the leaves to open and for your loading equipment or access aisle.
Prepare firm, level, drained support suitable for the unit and site. Check local siting requirements for your address and intended use before delivery.
No. The length names the exterior format. The example storage model has approximately 9ft 4in of interior depth; other models differ. Request the clear dimensions of the completed unit.
Some are made from longer containers, while other documented constructions are factory-built short units or paired modules finished after separation. Ask how the offered unit was made; its condition label does not resolve the method.
The label alone does not establish that. Confirm approval, current examination or survey and carrier acceptance for the finished unit and planned movement.
Some sellers offer 10ft High Cube configurations. Confirm their actual exterior, interior and opening measurements separately from the standard-height example on this page, along with the site and delivery height requirements.
A bare dry container has no active temperature or humidity control. Specify the contents and whether insulation, ventilation or conditioned equipment is needed; those features have their own space and cost implications.
Use the request form with 10ft selected, add the ZIP, condition, construction preference, intended use and site details. It prepares an editable draft to copy or download. The seller must confirm the unit and the delivered total.
Compare the configuration and condition with delivery and unloading specified.
