40FT STANDARD HEIGHT / CARGO WORTHY

40ft Cargo Worthy Shipping Containers

Compare a standard-height 40ft cargo-worthy (CW) container when the shell is intended to carry cargo in transport. Establish the seller’s inspection criteria, the condition of the offered unit and the documents needed for the planned shipment. A CW listing does not automatically include a current survey or prove acceptance by your carrier.

Keep the grade, examination and shipment checks separate

A safety approval plate and a seller’s commercial grade answer different questions. Confirm the applicable examination status rather than treating the presence of a plate as proof that every required check is current.

CheckWhat it answersWhat to request
CW conditionDoes the offered shell meet the stated cargo-worthy inspection criteria?Unit identity, dated inspection or survey evidence, defect and repair details.
CSC approval and examinationWhat approval and current examination status does this unit have?Readable plate, container number and either the applicable next examination date or approved continuous examination evidence.
Planned shipmentWill the actual transport operator accept it for this movement? The carrier or logistics provider’s requirements for documents, survey, equipment type and cargo.

Establish which inspection is included

Some offers describe a unit as capable of passing an inspection while arranging the survey separately. Ask whether the price includes the inspection you need, who performs it, what it covers, when it takes place and whether any repairs are included before the documents are issued.

Match the documents to the actual container number. If a different unit is substituted, obtain its own condition and examination evidence before accepting it for the shipment.

Read the offered unit’s ratings before planning cargo

Confirm the actual equipment type, tare weight, maximum gross mass and payload from its markings and documentation. Container condition does not increase these ratings. The main 40ft page gives a dimensions example; the offered unit’s measurements and plate control the purchase decision.

  • Check the packed cargo against the interior and door opening, including handling space.
  • Have load distribution, securing and any concentrated loads reviewed for the actual cargo and equipment.
  • Confirm whether standard height meets the load requirement before requesting a separate High Cube offer.

When is the cargo-worthy premium useful?

Compare CW when cargo transportation is part of the plan and the necessary condition and documentation can be established. For storage alone, compare a WWT unit against your floor, access and environmental needs; a shipping-related premium may not solve a storage problem.

A repainted surface, a newer-looking shell or an informal grade label cannot replace the unit checks needed for the intended movement.

Buying questions

Does cargo worthy mean a survey certificate comes with the container?

The listing alone does not establish this. Ask whether the specific survey or document required for your shipment is included, issued for the offered container and current for the planned movement.

Can I use a cargo-worthy container for storage?

Assess its floor, doors, sealing and cargo history for your goods. Cargo-transport suitability does not provide temperature or humidity control or a cleanliness guarantee.

Is a CSC plate enough to confirm current status?

Check approval and examination evidence for the actual unit. A plate alone does not establish the current examination status or acceptance for a particular shipment.
